I am having the same problems, though I like because in the rain I can see clearer. I have to re-plenish the window every month.

Clean your windshield with alcohol, then clean it with Bon Ami powder. Rinse it good, and then use the Rain X. Bon Ami won't hurt the glass and is recommended by GM for getting the road crud off. If you put the Rain X on right, you won't notice the streaks. I use the Rain X wax. It seems to be better. Make sure you have good clean wiper blades, bad or dirty blades cause most of the streaks.

I think it might depend on how good your eyes are. My husband used to use it on the windows of his car, until I nagged him into stopping it. :) I happened to inherit especially sharp eyesight.
For me, the windows looked blurry afterwards and then would steadily degrade from there. He thought it was just fine for awhile and would only gradually, if the application was not repeated, notice the degradation.
It's been years and I don't remember anymore what we used to get rid of the buildup, but it involved some elbow grease. I think it was probably a solution of mostly white vinegar with warm water and a few drops of a degreasing dish detergent added in.

Rain-X is an ok product. When you apply it, the window has to be dry and you have to "buff" it into the glass. And I mean BUFF!! once you've buffed it enough, the haze will go away and the glass will be clear.
It does help in torrential rains where even HIGH speed isn't fast enough!

I have them put it on at the car wash and I've had some pretty good results with it in so far as keeping my windshield clear when it rains. You probably just put too much on at one time. It will probably wear off with time. I would't worry about it.
