Memorization works best when you involve as many of your senses as you can. Read it, hear it, speak it, write it....repeatedly. Repetition, repetition, repetition is all that has ever worked for anyone.

memorize the poem in parts. After you think you memorized one part go do something else like watch t.v. or something and come bk and see if you have actually memorized it. Just continue doing that and in the end you can see if you memorized all of it

Good Luck!

It's tedious isn't it? Laborious, especially when it's not something you're passionate about. The fact that you state "Need To" is a clue to me.
Does the poem have Rhyme to it? If so that might make it easier, just in recalling those words at the end of the lines that do rhyme.

Memory by association is the best way however.

Wonder how you could memorize a song just by listening to it? Record the poem and listen to it over and over again. You'll know it by heart by Monday.

Read it out loud. That helps me more than any other tip that people give. Try reading it out loud with a friend too. Make a copy. You read a few lines, she reads a few. You get the idea. Then try to recite it to a friend and have her tell you when you make a mistake. Good Luck.

When I need to memorize something, I read it and write it down as Im saying it aloud to myself. Writing it will help you see and understand it better.

Type the first line down. Then go down two spaces and type the first and second line. Go down two spaces and type the first, second and third line. Keep continuing this until you have the entire poem typed. You'll have it memorized.

Tape-recording it and listening to it over and over helps too. As you listen to it over and over, talk along with it and you'll improve every time.

Blessed be.

Say a line at a time ,seven times in a row out loud. teach it to a sibling, Actually perform it like they are your own words and emotions. remember , if there's a comma in the sentence , its meant to be read like that.

I always write it over and over again. Just by copying it down, you'll remember it. Hopefully its not a long poem.

Writine it down will help, and then once you write it down, read it aloud and then keep quizing yourself so that you force yourself to remember it. Notecards work really well!
