Simply remind your customer on the contract that your work is copyrighted and that it and any portion of it may not be reproduced in any fashion or used for commercial purposes without the Artist's prior written permission. It's not a legal contract and doesn't have to be - your work is automatically copyrighted... but it doesn't hurt to let the customer know that YOU know.

Unfortunately, they can change and tweak it just a little, and wriggle out of the law through a loophole. But don't let them know that you know that...

If you're in the U.S. , for 20$ you can register a copywrite on your art and be legally protected from people copying your work. Check the United States Patent Office for the address of the office you need.
