Ok, I know some very basic things about a guitar, but I am not sure what a chord is. For instance, when I am attempting to play a song it says something like A7. I have no clue what this is. Also, exactly what is the diff. btw tabs and chord. I am just thoroughly confused about it all!

alright, here you go so pay close attention.

Tab is just simplified notation, it tells you where to fret the note. Be careful because it's upside down though. In tab, the strings are the opposit of on your guitar.

Chords are very easy to understand. But it sounds tough. A chord is just a combintaion of notes in a particular scale. A major chord is just the 1st, 3rd, and 5th note of a scale, no more than that. These chords can be played hundreds of different ways as long as those 3 notes are there.

When you see a something like A7, that is just the name of a chord. Once you get a little better you wil be able to play that chord in about 8 different places, and this allows you to put your own spin on something cool. Get a chord finder book, it will help you out tremendously. Or you can go to this web site:

it's a very helpful tool and will teach you lots of neat stuff.

Remember to have fun with guitar, it's given me years of pleasure. Also remember to not start out to complicated find something you can learn.

Chords are a combination of notes played simultaneously (on a guitar, this is done by strumming the strings rather than picking at individual ones)

A7 is the notation for a particular Chord, known as "A Seventh". The link below will show you how to play it, or any other chord you want to know.

A tab is a way of writing guitar music - six horizontal lines representing the six strings, with numbers representing fret numbers to show where to put your fingers. The example below is a tab for the A7 chord.

e---0---
B---2---
G---0---
D---2---
A---0---
E---X---

This means play the second fret on the D and B strings, open (no fret) on A, G and top E, and don't play the low E string at all.

A chord is where you put your fingers on a few frets and strum.
A tab is where you play like guitar solos, not strumming. Sometimes tabs have chords on them and shows exactly where to put your fingers. Chords need you to already where your fingers need to go.

A7 means that you need to play the chord A7.

A chord is Three or more notes simultaneously sounded form a chord. Traditionally, chords have been built by superimposing two or more thirds. For example, notes C-E-G form a chord or major triad. The note upon which the chord is founded is called the root. The other notes are called by the name of the interval they form in relation to the root:

Tab is a method for transcribing music that shows the positions of notes on the frets and strings, usually identified by the letter-name of the chord (also known as "tab").

also chords and tab have different symbols

tab shows the numbers on the strings and if a chord is being struck the numbers will reflect it

easy-type guitar music shows chord boxes above the music line, and yes A7 is 2-4 on the 2nd fret, it's a 7th chord often used in country type music. the beatles song rocky raccoon is almost all 7th chords

Tabs uses string and fret Numbers instead of notes. Cords are a number of notes played at he same time. It is just about impossible to sing and play the notes on a guitar at the came time. The person singing plays cords. Certain cords go together. For example, D and A7 cords go together. Get a beginners guitar book, and get someone to help you.
