It seems that just about every pregnancy-related web site with message boards attracts a fair amount of "im 13 but i really want a baby"-type posts. I've seen a few here. (There's also a fair whack of "im fourteen and pregger!" posts.)

WTF??

I'm sure it happens elsewhere, but these things almost invariably come from the States.

What on earth is going on that would make this kids-wanting-kids not isolated psychosis, but relatively easy to find? Have you known anybody like this; if so, what on earth was going on there?

If it's 'in,' can you explain why?

If you're a kid and you want a kid, can you explain why you can't wait...?? And how you picture your life with a baby when you're still in high school (or, as a drop-out)?

I was one who wanted a baby when I was around the age you're referring to. I wanted a baby at a young age because I didn't want to be an "old" mother. I had a couple of friends whose mothers had them at a very young age, and I thought it was cool. I also thought it'd be great to have a baby to take care of and be my own

I seen some teen on a talk show before that wanted to have a baby. I think she thought that it would some how fill a void in her life. She didn't feel loved so she figured a baby would love her.
No it doesn't just happen in the states. Some countries it's acceptable to be pregnant as a teen. Of course they are normally wed by then too so I'm not sure that counts lol.

One of my cousins got pregnant at 13. She got pregnant twice more while in her teens I believe. She's about 25 now and as 4 kids. I think what happen with her is when she was younger her brother died in a drownding accident. Her parents totally fell apart. They seperated and she lived with her dad for a long time and he didn't seem to give her attention. A few years later she was pregnant with her first baby. She then got pawned back and forth between her parents. None of them giving her the attention she needed. Ding, another bun in the oven.
So what I think happen is she looked for attention else where, other guys. She was deprived of that attention at such a young age that it's all she craves for. Probably even now, last I heard she got married to some jerk who doesn't treat her kids well.

Um...from my experience (I haven't had a baby, this is from when I've read online and what my friends who have had babies at a young age) most girls in the US don't get pregnant on purpose. I know there are some girls that want a baby cause, "It's cute" and "it would be nice to have", but what girls with that mind set don't realize is babies are a 24/7 job. They're not puppies where they can put food in a bowl and the puppy will eat when it wants to. I guess they don't realize that they are responsible for another life for the next 18 years of their life and they have to grow up pretty fast after having a baby at such a young age.

But, I tend to run into more, "I'm pregnant and I'm scared" post than, "I'm 13 and I really want a baby." I think there should be a program for girls with that mind set so they experience life as a mother...with real babies. (like the mothers of babies can watch the girl as she cares for the baby so she can see, first hand, what it's like to be a mother)

It's human nature to want to procreate. Before the social politics took over, women were able to marry and start families when they were ready. The age of acceptability has increasingly gotten higher and higher.Their bodies and hormones are telling them that they should though I'm definitely agree that 13 and 14 year olds shouldn't have babies. I'm only trying to help you understand why they want them.

Unfortunately it's getting to be a huge problem. A lot of girls think that being pregnant is like a badge of honor! It's the "in" thing.

I remember back when the "in" thing was nothing more harmful than silver eyeshadow. I don't know what posesses these girls.

I don't know what is goin on, but it is very much common. Some may not actually go through with the act, but they do want to have a baby.
