I am thinking of getting a second dog... my kids want a dauschund.... I don't....lol. Any thoughts?

I have had about 60 dogs in my life time (I fostered orphan dogs) and out of my experiences with all different breeds, I honestly have to say that mutts are the best! They are the sweetest and most compassionate. But, if you're more of a pure breed kind of family, I'd go with something like a Beagle or Blue Heeler, but if you don't have a lot of land, try something like a Boston Terrier or Yorkshire Terrier.
And just another thought, if you get a dauschund, there is a big chance it will be a bratty high maintenance pet.
My personal dog that I had as my own pet was a mastiff, and they are BY FAR the best dog out there. Gentle giant is the perfect way to describe them. They are opposite dauschunds, but they are 100x better!!

I really don't have a favorite breed I like as I love most animals.
I always picked an dog suitable for the quarters I lived in. Always wanted a German Sheppard mainly to protect my family but they need a lot of running room.
I've owned a number of different breeds over the years and I currently own a Teacup Poodle but moved into an apartment where dogs aren't allowed so my son has taken her. Sure miss her.
Your children have a good taste for the dog they are asking for and believe it or not it is an excellent choice. I had a miniature dauschund years ago and they are wonderful for children.
Depending on how old your children are is another major factor as far as choosing a dog also, so if I were you the dauschund would be an outstanding pet for your family...including yourself.

Beagle - better looking than a Dauschund and a similar size. Also with short hair so easy to groom.
Long hair dogs: I love Collies (like Lassie) and Border Collies.

I love Labrador Retrievers. I have 3! (They're bigger than a Dauschund though!)

Well, we have 2 dogs:
1)A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel -big name for a little (and expensive) dog.
2) A Border Collie-Retriever mix we got at a shelter.
They are both great dogs, very different from each other but both very sweet.

i love most breeds of dogs. my dad has 2 labs and will tell anyone that they're the best. they are fine for a bigger dog, but i prefer small dogs. a little bichon or a beagle might be good for your kids. good luck!

I agree with your kids!! I love dachshunds! They are so cute!! Anyways you don't want a dachshund so i'll tell you what else I like. I like pugs, hounds (my mmother had one when she was younger and said that they drooled alot and howled at the moon), beagles (great family pet), bull terriers. I would tell you more but i am now to captured and looking for me a dog.

my favorite are beagles, but they aren't always the best with kids. golden labs are good with children, and are very faithful....but the fur!!! some of the best pets i've ever had have come from rescue shelters, that's always an option. good luck with whatever your choice!
