There are a number of ways you can obtain visa to come to US - temporary visa or visa for the purpose of becoming lawful permanent residents (LPR).
Temporary visa are like visitors, students and temporary workers. http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/services/tempbenefits/index.htm
On the LPR track, one can apply through family members who are US citizen, invest sufficient amount of money in the US, through employment etc.
http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/services/residency/employment.htm
To obtain visa through employment, you will need to find a company who is willing to sponsor your application. http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/services/residency/employment.htm The process is time and effort consuming.
You might have better luck with temporary worker visa E-3 as a temporary worker. http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/services/tempbenefits/TempWorker.htm
The links will get you to US Citizen and Immigration Services web site which explains the process in great detail.
Best wishes.

I have looked for years for a job on the internet. I have found that the best way is to get in with a company that has web or home based positions and later see if you can work yourself into one of those positions. Here in South Carolina, people who want to work can work. It might not be the job you want though. The best bet is to make sure you have that degree as the job market for the positions that people actually want is very fierce.

My cousin married an Aussie. They flop back and forth between Perth and North Carolina every three years or so. He was a graduate student, and found a company to sponsor his visa, he now has a green card and is working on dual citizenship. She got her Australian citizenship last year, so she is now a dual citizen.
My cousin works in marketing, and doesn't have much trouble finding work.
I doubt you will find a company to hire you over the internet, but I suppose it depends on what you want to do and where you want to live. I have lived or worked all over the US, and in 32 other countries. Email me if you want more info, but here is something you can try:
Hilton, Hotel Intercontinental, and others all have hotels in Australia. You can apply for a job here in one of the hotels there. Popular tourist cities LOVE to hire foreigners to work in their hotels (Orlando, New York City, Chicago, etc). The hotel may sponsor you if you agree to work for a certain period for them exclusively. Hotels have ALL kinds of jobs, but they like the foreigners to work the front desk or concierge.
One draw back to tourist towns: They are overcrowded, have high traffic, and all the other issues that come with such a high density of population. But, they have professional sports, attractions like theater and opera, zoos, museums, etc.
If you are young and want to travel - go for it! I have never regretted any of my stops in my travelling life.

Here in America if you want to work and work hard at finding a job it shouldn't take you very long at all to get a job. A few weeks at the most.

I don't know about a job visa, but please learn how to tip properly before you ever have a meal out in the US.
Aussie's are notorious for NEVER leaving a tip when vacationing here.
I don't mean to be rude to you personally or anything, but why is that?
I have traveled to other countries and always tried to learn about their customs so that I could respectfully follow them.
Good luck with your move.
