we are going to be travelling to england later this year and we would like to be able to smoke on the 12-16 hour flight

Yes there are several that allow smoking. Go to this link for a full list of these airlines. You need to scroll down the page to find them but they are listed !!

no international airline allow smoking during the flight but you can smoke in the airport before boarding the plane and after the flight. find something to chew during the flight or buy a patch (for smokers and its available in the market) in lieu of cigar.

I think that if you are headed to England you will have to suck it up, and chew some gum. Unfortuantely, Carolyn's website suggestion is outdated (1997).
