I know its sounds cheesy but follow your dream....just concentrate on training, or whatever you need to do and forget about others things. I think that age can really put you off doing things you think you should have done earlier but I think that you should forget the fact that you are 21 and just think about what you want to do in life, your life is only just beginning, so go and become a proffesional footballer!!
Good Luckx

go live in a country like Qatar or Iran or Scotland: these nation's football isn't quite as high-standard, so you have a better chance of making it to the top level.. If you're wanting to play in England at top level, the time has coem and gone. I have a couple of mates who play for Norwich and the other Ipswich. they got in at just 12 years old with part time contracts, and are now fully flourished, 20 year old pro players..

Play all the time. If you aren't already playing for a team I think you should hop on that now. If you like in the UK, I think it might be pretty hard to do that. Just come to the US, universities and colleges are always looking to give scholarships to foreign players. Just tell them that you're from England and they'll give you a free ride

i take it your a decent player already or you wouldn't be asking. your only real hope is to sign for a lower league team and hope for the best.Barry Hales and Geoff Horsefield went that way. you could consider a league like the Irish league or the welsh league. there has been a player or 2 who went through our Irish league and are now in the premiership after being picked up late in life (Glenn Little of reading) if you pocess the skill and have the heart for a long battle you should be able to make it.

Have lots of talent and huge desire to play football and willingness to work extremely hard all the time with the risk of being seriously hurt but with knowing you'll definitely be sore/semi-hurt all the time.

hate to burst your bubble but most top flight players are with teams from the age of 14 or 15, sometimes even earlier. dont stop trying though!

Exposure, talent, try-outs and soccer academies.. plus, connections help.. you gotta start at the bottom, maybe for a 3rd division team... then move your way up... even look into trying out for the MLS
