do you believe that if gay people are born gay, then theres a chance pediphils are also born pediphils? the only reason why im comparing pediphils with homosexuals, is because they both have different sexual desires than the common hetrosexual. if someone has a desire to have sex with children, he's still considered a pediphil, even if he didnt commit a crime. im also not saying being gay is wrong, because theres nothing wrong with 2 willing adults having sex. if you think scientists can prove that gay people are born gay, then couldnt they also prove that pediphils are also born pediphils?

ive noticed that the people who are against this question are saying pediphils have a similar (abusive) childhood, so the enviroment affects them. but if you havent noticed gay people also have a similar childhood. theres a lot of guys who turn out gay who were raised by their mother with no father figure. my uncle grew up in a decent family but became a pediphil. my mother was molested by him but didnt became a pediphil. how do you explain that?

of course the majority of pediphiles would be hetrosexual. they want to be socially accepted just like homosexuals, they arent going to admit that they are a pediphile. they get married and try to live a normal life just like some gay people do. pediphiles dont intend on hurting children, they are just sexually attracted to children, thats what causes them to molest children. it has nothing to do with wanting to hurt the child!

if scientist can prove that pediphiles are born attracted to children, then maybe they could find a cure for it. why are people against this idea? it gives hope knowing that there could possibly be a cure for pediphiles.

Nobody is born anything, they are born as a blank sheet of paper and life and their choices determine who they become.

I don't think people are born gay. I don't think people are born heterosexual. Nor do I think people are born pediphiles. I think all people are born with tendencies ... and they become who they are based on the choices they make. They have tendencies to make certain choices.. but they have choices just the same. On the other hand, just as some are born autistic we know that damage to certain areas of the brain cause behavioral, learning, and even sexual disorders I think. There are also differences in the structures of some brains that aren't considered damaged necessarily, just different... mutated almost I guess. I don't know if a pedophile's brain is structurally or chemically different than a brain from a normal person (whatever normal is anyway). I'm sure scientists study cross sections of the brain from people of every disorder. The results of their findings, I have not read. But I do think it's possible that their brains are structured differently whether anatomically or chemically and therefore there being a possibility of being born a pedophile. Behaviors are sometimes hard to assess as biological or psychological. Truth is... I'm not sure. I think there are studies out there though that would help you to understand, if you want to delve into that deep a study.

I think I read somewhere not too long ago that scientist do believe that pedophiles cannot help who they are, the same way gay people can't. But being born a certain way I don't think has anything to do with the argument whether it's right or wrong. A relationship between two consenting adults doesn't harm anyone. Despite conservatives beliefs that children being around gay people will make the child turn out gay too, many studies have pointed in the opposite direction. I've never seen an argument where the anti-gay people have backed that theory up with any evidence other than their personal beliefs that it's a "perverted lifestyle" and therefore is a bad influence on kids.

On the other hand, a pedophile that chooses to act on their feelings is harming young, innocent people, who are too young to choose, fight back, or even to fully understand what's going on. Because they're forcing their will on someone (or coercing someone who's not old enough to make decisions for themselves to willingly go along with it), that makes it wrong. Not whether or not they can help the way they feel.

Pedophilia is different from both homosexuality and heterosexuality in that it exploits children. All professional mental health organizations, such as the APA, NASW, etc recognize that homosexuality is no more a medical disorder than having a healthy sex drive toward opposite sexed partners. While it is certainly within the realm of possibility that a person could be "born" with pedophilia, research has not fleshed that out as a valid cause. Also, scientists can't even prove why a person is born straight, nor born gay...they can only point to some possible factors. Gay-as-disorder is not a reality, but diddling children is certainly a disorder, so I don't know why you would compare gay birth to pedophilia birth. Most sex offenders are white men, over age forty, married, and professing themselves to be heterosexual. Perhaps it would be better to try to understand why white married men over forty are statistically more likely to harm our children, you know?

I've heard such arguments before, and I found them quite convincing. The problem is that there are many people who go on to argue that since they were born that way, they've done nothing wrong. My own viewpoint is that mutually enjoyable activities between consenting adults in the privacy of their own home are no one else's business. If the first two, at least, are not met then it becomes everyone's business, because then there is a victim. I would also point out that, according to National Child Protective Service records, over 90% of child molesters are hetero-sexual, most commonly a girls father or brother, so this can in no way be considered a Gay issue. I know you made no such comparison, for which I thank you, but it is such a common slur that I felt it something necessary to address.

I'm under the impression that most if not all pedophiles were sexually abused as children and have never matured sexually and emotionally to the point where they can have normal relations with another adult. I doubt that people are born to be pedophiles. Pedophiles don't fall in love with children. They want to be in control of them and one means is sexual. They are acting out the trauma of their own childhood.

Gay men and women, on the other hand, fall in love with each other as heterosexuals do, and have long term relationships--and sometimes just one night stands, as plenty of heterosexuals do too.

A healthy sexual relationship is one on equal terms with a willing partner or partners. A child doesn't have the emotional capacity to understand and be involved in a sexual relationship with an adult. Pedophilia is not healthy.

There is nothing unhealthy about homosexuality. It's just sex between consenting adults. The body parts involved are irrelevant.

I like your question, but I challenge the underlying premis that heterosexuality is "the norm" and homosexuality is "other". Shouldn't people also question whether or not straight people are born that way? Why aren't scientists researching the 'cause' of heterosexuality? Why do people question where gays come from, but not question where heteros come from? It doesn't make sense to compare straight people with for example sociopaths.... So why does is seem OK for people to compare gays with pedophiles? I don't know if science can prove pedophiles are born that way, however, pedophila is about power and abuse and should not be compared laterally to relationships that are based on love.

I have heard gays say pedos were molested or abused . I have heard talk of a learned trait . I dont think there is anybody out there teaching a class on pedos or beastiality.

As with anything there are probably some that were born that way and some that had tramatic episodes and some people that are just mean or mentally disturbed.

I know lots of guys that have a mental urge to have sex with sexually mature but under age girls but dont physically act on it because its wrong.

Moral of the story , you will find some weirdos in any group , but most of its members are good people.

Actually, if you look at the numbers the majority of pedophiles are straight men, no matter what the sex of their victim is. I think everybody has potential to do a variety of things. Pedophilia is not about the sex. It's about a variety of other things and can be sparked from a bad childhood. Homosexuality is about a preference in partners, just like whether someone likes oranges instead of pears.

But pediphils hurt people. Children are not able to handle something like that. They (pediphils) need help.

If I sell a 10 year old a car is that because I was born a natural salesman? Does that justify it? It is illegal. Why do you think it is illegal? Maybe because the 10 year old is not old enough to make good decisions. He may desire the car. Does that make him any safer on the roads?
I have seen this line of thought before. I hope and pray it is just to get a reaction from people.
