Just a side note, I love my bf to death, but we're getting married in Vegas. I see no need to spend tons of money on a wedding. I'd rather invest my time in the marriage itself.

i think weddings are wonderful, if the people are getting married for the right reasons =)

Bridezillas deserve to be run over by a steamroller that their grooms are driving! UGH!

You're welcome Jorga! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! It's very smart of you to focus on the marriage, the big picture. Too many brides focus solely on the wedding day.

Weddings are good for one thing - legitimate children. - 2 people will either stay together or they will not. 1/2 end in divorce.
I have never been a bridezilla - totally not my style. Bridezilla's are aptly named for being the horror show monsters that they are. Those husbands are probably whipped any way - and afraid of the beast.
The first time I married because I was at the age where I thought I should be married - bad idea seeing that it ended in divorce. The wedding was traditional and cheep at about 5K. Now, I've been with my real love - my soul mate - and we don't even need to marry because we know we will be together till death - but we descided to marry next year cuz we descided we want some kids. ANd kids need to come from a family structure of married parents that love each other - it is the ideal way to be.

Weddings are too expensive - and people spend too much on them - Hopefully we'll spend more on the honeymoon!

My husband and I got married the day after we talked about getting married for the first time. We went to the courthouse in Hawaii (where we were both stationed) to apply for a marriage license. A big Samoan guy in a grass skirt and beads walked up and asked about the wedding ceremony. My hubby and I looked at each other. The Samoan guy understood...he asked if we wanted to 'now'. We said sure a he married us by the Eternal Flame (behind the courthouse). I was in a Calvin and Hobbes T-shirt, jeans, and Doc Martins. My husband was in BDUs, rucksack sitting to the side. The only witness was the woman who gave us a ride to the courthouse. We have no pictures of the ceremony.

I've been married to him for 8 years...MUCH longer than the marriages of most bridezillas. This was about love, not some silly little outdoing the Jones' crap.

Good luck on your marriage! You should do fine...you're not a bridezilla...

I don't think they are crap. I think people sometimes put to much into it though. Like these famous people who have million dollar weddings and in 2 months get devoriced. Bridezillas need a reality check and that show has made me second guess getting married myself. If/when I do I'd probably do what you're going to do and go get hitched real quick or just have a tiny tiny wedding with just a few people invited. I don't see the point in wasting all that money into one day that still doesn't guarantee a life long partner.

Yes. Women should stop their unattractive obsession with their wedding day. All weddings are the same -- the same church, the same service, the same food at the same reception -- only the bride thinks it's special. All the guests have been to a hundred weddings before and they all blend together.

So they should make their weddings short and sweet, and just try to have a good time instead of making a damn fuss over the flowers and the dress and crap.

I can't tell you how many splendifferous weddings i've seen during my 10 year marriage. All full of fluff and ideals. All of which are marriages that didn't make it. All of the outrageously expensive weddings I have been witness to have all ended in divorce. It's kind of entertaining in a way. The wait and see game. I was married in an ugly brown dress with brown flats and only close family members watching. My marriage has outlasted all of theirs. TEN wonderful years. Ten years without outrageous expectations, just love.

Oh dear. There's gotta be a story behind this !

But to answer your questions....no, and no. Even though I'm a middle aged, never married "old maid" I still believe in marriage and hope it might be in the cards for me some day (even if I'm in the old folks home before I meet Mr. Right)

No, weddings are beautiful if the two who are getting married are truly in love and are committed to the marriage and to each other. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
