NOW YOU TELL ME that you're a girl... jeez! Ignore the stuff below.
Some things not mentioned:
Crimp your hair w/ one of those crimping irons. If you do that it will bring back memories I have from a lady in teh 80's...
AS I recall, Tina Turner looked hot in leather miniskirts. This doesn't do much for your desire to stay warm, unless you count on dirty old men like me keeping you warm. She also had the crimped hair thing too.
Cindy Lauper, then Madonna, lead the way for the ladies on the pop scene. Boy George had a few weeks fame in there too.
Exercise clothes! Let's get Physical! Physical! Another idea where you have to depend on the warm dirty old men...
The country-western look (below) was big for women too. Bonus points if you have a mechanical bull, or a guy who... uh, nevermind.
I think that the rest has been covered in other posts...
********posted before I knew she was a she*******************
For a guy?
Sadly, the 80's was a decade when people tried to avoid the exceeses of the 70's by being bland and boring. Worse yet, Madonna's "Material Girl" (as well as the Reagan years and the whole Wall Street thing) made us all think we had to spend wayyyyy too much money for everything. You can re-create a good chunk of the 80's by putting the words, "Designer" and "turbo" on everything you wear.
Men were notorios for wearing those yellow / red polka dot "power ties". Complete the ensemble with a navy blue blazer, and button-down oxford STARCHED shirt, beige pleated pants, and those slip-on shoes with the damned tassles on the top (where the penny used to go when they were called "penny loafers."
For a male casual look, nothing screams "early 80's" more than an Izod allegator-logo shirt, with a pair of too-damned-expensive "designer jeans" (just put blue paint on your naked lower half, and you've got the idea). You then slip into a pair of Topsider boat shoes, even tho you'll never be on a boat, and the shoes fall apart when they even see salt water.
Sadly, there was a revival of cowboy western wear, along with the suddent popularity of "young country" music (which explains why talk radio got going in the 1980's as well, but I digress). Look up the movie "Urban Cowboy" to see a horrifying, but reproducable look that you can take to any halloween party.
Some of the pop music bands provided some tragic legacies as well. For instance, if you have a flower pot (clean one) then you can use it as a hat and go as a member of Devo. If you have a huge (4' tall?) foam hat (to go with those foam fingers at the stadium) then you can do your Talking Heads imatation. If you fancy some overalls with little else, try for the Dexy's Midnight Runners look. And, who can forget the Robert Plant look for men and women in the "simply irrisistable" video?

Wear some leggings (no skirt) and a long baggyish tunic off the shoulder "madonna" top with tank top straps showing. Wear your hair on a side ponytail or Google "80s Clothes" and you can find some stuff like that. Also try some flaurecent colored Converse (high tops) or other bright colored Converse. That was the style back then. If you don't want your hair up, put a headband or bandana in. Have fun!

I attended an 80's party last year and attended as a rubics cube. I wore black pants and shirt and took a cardboard box with the top and bottom out - painted squares to look like the cube and then took black suspenders and attached to the top front and top back of the box. Everyone loved it and I won the contest for most creative! Good Luck!

Or try Footloose or Flashdance. It shouldn't be too rough. Leg warmers and torn sweatshirts were good for the girls. Big hair, big shoulder pads. Wrap tops with A-line skirts in big floral prints. Guys - try the Miami Vice look - pastel shirt, white suit, white shoes, no socks, shades.

Depends. Are you a guy or a girl? Either way, I suggest you rent an 80s movie, like Sixteen Candles. That should give you some ideas.

Don't know how easy these are to find, but obviously you wouldn't need all --
Legwarmers (preferably neon).
High-top sneakers, perhaps w/velcro and in a silly colour.
A really long, over-the-bum sweatshirt with dolman sleeves.
An acid-wash jean jacket.
Leggings.
Anything with big shoulder pads (either gender).
Big hair.
A lot of ratty black lace scarves (think 80s Madonna).
A "Members Only" jacket.
Moon boots.
