How about a grandfather telling his grandson or granddaughter about his experiences coming to America as an immigrant? That could take place at any time in American history!

Ask a family member or older friend about something that they experienced in that period that would be interesting. Example: My Grannie passed down the story of her parents traveling from the Smokey Mountains to Texas in a covered wagon in 1898. What a story! My other Maw Maw has told me the stories of traveling with the famous gospel singing group The Laffevers in the 1930's. She was a guitar picker & singer with them. If you can't find anyone, go to a nursing home. The nurses can tell you who has the stories. And you could even make a new friend with someone that needs a friend.

Find a historical event related to your city/state. Ask your parents/ grandparents, etc what historical events stand out for them. Maybe they participate in it , or were moved by it. Examples would be sit-ins, labor strikes, the assassination of King, the Kennedys, etc.
