I go to start it, and my lights come on (so it's not the battery, I JUST replaced it) and it spits and sputters and never actually starts. It acts like it is going to, but then it simply doesn't. I checked the fuses and they were all fine. I'm wondering if it could be a fuel filter or worse, fuel pump.

I have a 2.4 engine if that's any help. Any ideas?

i own a repair shop, and it can be a fuel filter stopped up on it,, or a bad fuel pump on it but, if it was running good before ,and now it wont run at all,id say it might have jumped timing on it,the sunfires have a reputation of doing this, and they usually don't give much of a warning that its going to happen either, they just do it,you may need to have it checked by a good mechanic it might save you some money to have it checked because if you start replacing things ,and that don't help,it can get pretty expensive,so id have it checked out good to see for sure what it is,,good luck i hope this help,s.

It could be those two, but try this: take a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a roll of paper towels and a handful of cotton swabs, and clean everything from and including the distributor cap down the wires to the plug connectors (no need to disconnect them or pull the plugs). If that doesn't help, make sure that there are no broken connections at the distributor cap. You can glue things on the cap back together, by the way...it's worth a try the way prices have risen. Except for the rotor. If all this doesn't help, look inside the cap at the rotor. You have to buy that if it's broken. It's reasonably cheap so don't try to fix it. This sputtering sounds like an ignition problem, though.

Your either missing spark or fuel. Either one of those problems can be computer generated or a sensor problem. It could also be a wire unpluged under your hood. like crank sensor or cam sensor. Figure out which one it's not getting.
