I would take Alex Rodriguez over Derek Jeter as my Shortstop in a heartbeat...It's not even a close call...

Derek Jeter - career
BA-317 OB%-388 SLG-463 OPS-851 Runs-1277 RBI-860 Hits-2150 HR-183 SB-249 CS-62 -
Defense - SS - Range Factor-4.186 FLD%-.975

Alex Rodriguez - career
BA-305 OB%-386 SLG-573 OPS-959 Runs-1358 RBI-1347 Hits-2067 HR-464 SB-241 CS-60 -
Defense - SS - Range Factor-4.648 FLD%-.977

The Range Factor difference alone means A-Rod saves 75 hits more per season(162G) than Jeter...Jeter in his career has never had one season in which he turned 100 double plays, A-Rod turned over 100 double plays five years in a row..

Let's see
Arod: 0 world series rings, 2 AL MVP's
Jeter: 4 world series rings, 1 world series MVP, 1 Allstar MVP

I don't care how many homeruns or rbi's or what his range is. the catch that Jeter made on July 1, 2004 says exactly why i want him on my team. you can have the shortstop from KC or wherever. Jeter is a PROVEN winner. And if you want to say well if he was on KC nobody would know him. Well I think you're wrong and it doesn't matter because he's not. What about all those people who said Nomar was better. Yeah he's so good he's playing 1st base in the NL now.

It depends on where you are like anywhere but New York A-rod but in New York Jeter. If you want to talk about a defensive shortstop nobody is better then Alex Gonzales from the Boston Red Sox. He had like 7 errors.

They are both bad at defense so I would have to say Angel Berroa of the Kansas City Royals(LOL).But seriously I would say David Eckstein of the St. Louis Cardinals because he had 6 errors in the regular season, while Jeter had 15, and A-Rod had 24;and Eckstein always hustles and does the best he can.Out of those two though I would say Derek Jeter,he has a better bat and glove.

In New York, definitely Jeter. A-Rod can't handle the pressure of the Big Apple.

I'm going to answear this question as honestly as i can,,,Let me tell you this! I love jeter,,But Arod is one of the best shortstops in Baseball,When he plays shortstop he makes Jeter look like a little leaguer. And just about every Gm ,,And manager in baseball knows it,,In fact, Brian Cashman,Had gotten calls from alot of Clubs,,Wanting to know if Arod would allow a trade, and come to their team,,AS A SHORTSTOP!!! There willing to make him a shotstop again,Because alot of People feel he lost something playing 3rd base. But he's ONE HELL OF A SHORTSTOP!!! And Jeter knows it!! Arod giving up shortstop,to play 3rd base is killing his career

Jeter any day.

He is a leader, he hits pretty well every season, and he is a clutch player. A-rod hits a lot of homeruns but he is more about A-Rod than his team. He was booed in NY for a reason and I think he will go sooner or later.

it is hard to say jeter is the best by far at defense but on the other hand he is no where as strong as a hitter of a-rod, and a-rod is a power hitter who you can depend on in a tough situation
