without insurance
each prenatal visit - 85 bucks (can run 300 or more if you see a specialist)
each urine test at the prenatal visit - 35
blood tets for pregnancy, diabetes, etc - 75 each test
ultrasound - 150-350 each
delivery
at home with a midwife - 2000
natural hospital birth (no meds) - 5000+
epidural - 5000 in addition to the birth cost
c-section - 30000 or more depending on the complication

With private insurance, I paid roughly $800 for all my prenatal care and childbirth the first time around. That included regular prenatal doctor's appointments, appointments with a high-risk specialist at the end (with sonograms once a week from 32 weeks on), 24 hours of labor, an eventual c-section, tests, and meds for the baby, and a 4-day hospital stay. Considering that my insurance paid 90% of the cost, it would have been around $8000 if I had no insurance.

I guess I should move to Canada! I had my first baby in February, and in the first couple of months, we paid over a thousand dollars, even though I had insurance.
I applied for Medicaid as a secondary insurace, and they covered everything. Soon after, I lost my job and my first insurance, but Medicaid still picked up everything.
I had a c-section, and spent 3 nights in the hospital for that, and I had another overnight in the hospital a month ealier to have an infection treated, so I can't even imagine how many thousands of dollars I would have had to pay for that.

It all depends on whether or not you have health insurance coverage. Each insurance company has various plans with different co-pays. Thankfully, my insurance paid for everything. All I paid was a $5 co-pay for my first pre-natal visit. The hospital stay was also included, but I did see how much the hospital charged the insurance. It was over $13,000!

depending on how much care the mother might need, it could go over $10,000. THis is paid for by those who have insurance. They don't get taxed like Canadians do but health insurance can cost a bundle too

It depends on your insurance co-pays but if you had to pay for everything yourself, close to 6000.00 would be a good guess. Your country has much better health care for their people than the USA

Well Let's see ~ I had my daughter in 1990 ~ At that time it cost the insurance well over $20,000.00 and me somewhere around $10,000.00 and I still had to pay them monthly.

I pay a $50 deductible, and it's all covered under my health insurance plan.
