To sing a song from a show you audition for is a bit presumptuous,,, good call on you part.
if you get a call back, it's likely you will be asked to sing one anyway.
I'd go with novelty pieces as opposed to heavy love ballads, and yet don't over charachterize, just do what you do.
The audition,,,especially one that requires singing, is to test range, stage presence, KNOWING any lyrics without hesitation.
Consider too that in that show there are chorus numbers, large group sing alongs, and even if you "mark" it would be required that you don't throw everyone else off.
The play is a fun one, enjoy it,,,even in the audition phase, and don'ttake any rejection as a personal attack. Also be preapared,,if you're called back, to accept a sub part. "I'd Like a Lead Role" is also a bit presumptuous,,,no offense meant.

I'd go with "Viva Las Vegas".
Birdie is based on Elvis and Ann Margaret was in both Birdie and the Las Vegas movie. So there is a connection. Also it's the same time period.

What Rogers and Hammerstien Musicals have you seen? Which ones are your favorite? No one on here can know what your voice sounds like so, pick a few songs you think are good for your voice. Then sing them for a friend, they can tell you which sounds the best. Then go with that one. Break a leg, hun.

why not from that show? I think you should perform a song that one of the lead characters sings. It would show the director what role you want and that you've already learned part of the material

I've been through many many tough auditions too. Here's what works for me -- I sing the National Anthem while lighting my farts. Works every time. Good luck!
