They are in a enclosed plastic circular holder with a small plastic crank on the side to wind up the tape. Theres a small metal "U" at the end to attach it to protruding objects. They are great as a tool for camera assistants to take measurements with. The 99 Cents Store used to carry two of them in a package for 0.99, but they don't carry them anymore. Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

harbor Freight has them. So does sears and home depot.

Sometimes at a Dollar store-- any kind. Otherwise, most cities have some kind of "cheap" tool place.
