I am 34 weeks pregnant and had been having sharp shooting pains deep inside my vagina today, possibly cervical area. They come and go quickly, but are there long enough to make me stop what I am doing. They occur when sitting and standing.

Later on, the pains also seem to be just above my pubic bone and seem to be worse when I stand. So they are happening in both places.

This is baby #2, I have had no bleeding, Braxton Hicks contractions, plenty of movement. Baby is not breech, no complications during this pregnancy. Not really concerned because there is no bleeding or other symptoms, just wondering what it could be.

Thanks.

I had this, with both kids. Your baby is most definitely inthe head down position. My doctor explained that during the last month of pregnancy, your babys head presses on your pelvic bone. With all that wiggling, it has pinched a nerve, and that is what is causing the shooting pains. Try lying on your back with your knees bent up. Put your hands under your hips to support your back and open your legs outward to a comfortable width. Hold them open for about 5 seconds and close them again. Do this about 10 times. Don't overwork yourself, just get your pelvic muscles loosened and hopefully this will take pressure off that nerve. you will be fine!

For my first son I was dilated at 1 cm but my water already broke so I got admitted at the hospital and labor was induced. I got strong contractions right away with the Pitocin and he was born 8 hours later. For my second son I was at 1 cm also when I was admitted but I had good contractions that was coming every 4 minutes. It took 9 to 10 hours before I reached 4 cm dilation and he was born less than one hour later. Apparently I started dilating much, much faster after reaching 4 cm. If I had to wait until I reached 4 cm with him I don't think I would have made it to the delivery room in time. You should discuss this with your doctor. If your having strong contractions where you need to breathe through them I would just head to the hospital if I were you. I would even go so far as to wait in the waiting room if I was told that I wasn't dilated enough to be admitted. It wouldn't do me much good to stay at home. If I'm experiencing strong contractions then what will I do at home besides a lot of breathing. That's just my opinion though.

You're in the last week - and these feelings are more prounounced in later pregnancies. If you have more than 4 contractions per hour or your water breaks, call your OB/hospital.

I'm 33 weeks pregnant with twins, have had similar problems for the past month or so. My OB says it's all normal. Some pregnancies will have "dry runs" - and some pregnancies will have more pelvic pressure than others.

The pains sound like the baby's head pressing on your nerves. I did this for the last month of my pregnancy and it scared the heck out of me as well as made me very uncomfortable.

It just sounds like you are having Bracks Hicks. With my second, they started early, and she came at 39 weeks.
