I'm trying to steal this street sign (don't worry its not a stop sign, just a residental street sign), i got the nuts and bolts off of it, but it has something on the top that won't come on and still holds the sign in place, it looks something like this:

lol I like how you put this under "Hobbies & Crafts" XD.
As for taking the sign off, I've never done it before so I wouldn't know.

No, but that is not to say I have not been connected to signs disappearing. Once after a big football game someone told everyone to take the city limits signs from the losing team's highways and be quick about it because the losing city was the host to the state penitentiary. Three years later that same voice said to change those signs slightly and place them above the school bonfire so that they read something entirely different. Believe me the new city name was not flattering to ladies. I also remember that voice wanting a sign removed that had something to do with the Oregon University mascot so that all the signs near a particular school could read Beaver. But my favorite was when the same voice thought it would be great to have some guys look for some city benches to place all over a campus. I wonder how many people had to stand for the bus that year. But I personally never listened to that voice. It seemed to hare brained for me.

Try sliding it through, if that doesn't work try using a saw or something and cut it off. But I wouldn't try to steal that street sign if I were you! Oh, and you could melt it off if you find a hot enough fire or heater or what ever makes things melt!

wrap a chain around the bottom and hook the other end to your car's axle. when you drive away, the chain will go up and flip the sign off the pole. then you go back and pick up your street sign.

It looks like your best bet is going to be sawing it off unless you have access to a handheld blow torch.
