Right click on the area that has the tabs and click on menu bar which should contain the favorites menu. Another way is click on tools, then toolbars and then favorites.

There are two small stars up in the left corner, one of which will lead you to your favorites. However, I did a restoration, and went back to IE6. Seven seemed to confusing to me.

your favorites are still there. either click on the star, or hit the alt key and the text menu will come up, and you will see favorites.
About that text menu, if you want to keep it there, hit alt to make it appear again, then click on view, then toolbars, then check "menu bar" and the text menu will stay there.

its the star to the left of your tabs. the star with a plus sign is to add to your faves.
also, your history is where you hit the star.
