Very often while I am on my computer, it will automatically 'disconnect' for no apparent reason. I then have to keep re-connecting. this interfers with my OU studies, and makes a mess of the work I've done.

Please can someone help me??!!

Great question and I'm glad to see that someone has asked. Yes, It can be caused by a number of things however, one of the biggest problems that we have right now in that field is a conflict between our Internet Services (as an example:RoadRunner/Brighthouse) which oporates at 2.4 ghz as does most cordless telephones in the home. Years ago most of our home phones were 900 mhz but now we're manufacturing a lot that oportate at 2.4 ghz which conflicts with our 2.4 ghz internet services. The two devices will constantly be knocking each other offline. If this is the case, simply change your home phones to the new 5.8ghz which will not conflict with your net services, plus you'll have great range on your phones. A lot of people excercise by walking and they can now carry their 5.8ghz phones with them and most can still reach the house even when they're a block or more away. If this does not solve your problem, hit me at dumbbutt4321@yahoo.com and I'll help you with it personally until the problem is solved. Larry (RadioShack 01-9590)

I presume by disconnect you are referring to internet disconnection. Explore the auto back-up possibilities of the programs you are working and back up automatically at 10 minute intervals to minimalise damage and loss while you are determining your problems. Then call in an IT speciaist because your problem can be caused by at least a dozen different and unconnected things that I can think of. Your small bill will save you a lot of energy and grief in the long run.

Check your internet connection settings, you may have it set to disconnect if idle for so long, you don't say what connection you have but if you are on dial up it may have a built in auto disconnect after 2 hours like my old account used to have

I'm assuming you're asking about the Internet.....when I first connected to the Internet, I had a dial-up connection from NTL.....this would cut out after two hours, and I would have to reconnect.... is this what you're asking?

If so, then you'll have to live with it....if not, then it would seem you've got a problem........ I'd suggest you take it up with your Internet provider.

Check the connection settings in the options tab, you might have it set to disconnect after a set time.
