I think some people "ask for help" maybe wanting it, maybe not. Either way, knowing if they have a problem, everyone around them will come to them and tell them how much they are there for them and how much they love them, etc, and that their friends/family will be talking about them when they leave. So by getting the help they want/need, they also get the attention they want/need.

I would say that attention seeking is a subconcious cry for help. If a person requires attention from outside sorces to feel fullfilled than they obviously have some self esteem/confidence issues which they mask with their attention seeking behaviour. And if someone says that they don't need that attention to feel fullfilled it is unlikely they will be able to give a better explanaton as to why they seek attention.

To want attention is a healthy, human desire. What would make it not so healthy would be the activities through which it is gained and the awareness of the seeker as to the depth of their own need. ....in my humble thought process.

Ja, both. But don't cry wolf too often, or others will soon ignore you.
