I agree with most people, you may wish to wait till you have more time.
But then again, come on, who hasn't had dogs in childhood/teenhood? I had two German Shepherd Dogs while I was in high school. Sure I was busy, but I made time for them every day. We went on walks, went to the park, I groomed them daily, fed them, etc. etc.
If your parents are willing to help out, you can have a dog. If they are willing to feed/exercise the dog when you are gone, but if not, then don't do it. Vacations mean finding someone to watch the dog in your house, or finding a good boarder.
I can't really recommend a specific breed. I want to say a smaller breed, like a Pug for example, because they can get their exercise in a smaller space and without having to walk for miles. But then, a large breed tends to be calmer (in general!) when nobody's home they are more likely to sleep but they will need lots of exercise when you are around.
If you're not sure you can handle a dog, get a cat. They are much easier to care for and can entertain themselves quite well. They also are less likely to tear up the house like a dog can when left alone all day. (Although my cats can make my house a disaster when they feel uppity.) However even a cat needs exercise and affection when you're home, you can't just ignore them all the time.
And if you really want a low-maintenance animal, consider a pair of rats or gerbils. They are affectionate and playful, can be trained, and don't mind at all if you are gone all day.
Good luck!

How about a tank of fish? Probably bettas.

I wouldn't even get a cat if I were you, unless you want to get 2 cats so they can be companions to each other. I have only one cat and she gets lonely when I'm gone and wants to play when I'm here. Pets are an additional responsibility and it sounds like your plate's pretty full right now. If you want to spare an hour a week to love an animal, animal shelters LOVE to have volunteers come help take care of the animals there, walk the dogs, etc.

If there's someone else in your household to help you take care of the pet, then maybe....
but otherwise, you sound too busy to give the necessary attention to a pet. Dogs are nearly the equivalent of toddlers--they need your attention a lot of the time. And you'll need a pet sitter when you're on vacation, which isn't cheap. Keep that in mind.

To the people who suggested cats, WHY!?

Our cats are two of the neediest creatures on this earth. They crave contstant attention. When I come home from work they leap at me when I open the door. When I am home they are constantly under my feet, or wanting a cuddle, or trying to suckle me (still kittens).

If you are at a time of your life when you are extremely busy I suggest you wait a few more years before getting a pet. Do you live with your parents? Are they willing to take care of the animal while you are at soccer, school or away on vacation?

If you really want a pet, maybe a few mice. We have mice, in a very large cage. They are social, but are happy if they have friends. Even then, they still need to be held and played with.

like quite a few different solutions have suggested, exceptionally plenty any canine might help understand if somebody is there. Labs and Springers, on the grounds that your loved ones is involved, are the two super possibilities. they're going to get the pastime carried out, they're super canines, and till you have your hearts set on dealing with a breeder, are rather consumer-friendly to discover in shelters - as canines of each and every age. in case you will detect a canine that's youthful - no longer a domestic dog yet no longer rather previous the two, or a youthful person, you would be greater advantageous off. It looks such as you like some thing greater right this moment and domestic canines take rather a good style of time to coach and are not constantly very alert.

If you have a big fenced yard to leave the dog in, Most any breed is okay. Although Mixed breed dogs always make better pets. I would not get an animal if they must be caged while you are away. You should never cage a dog or cat, except to transport to the vet, and then only if absolutely necessary.

NONE. An animal needs more attention than you will probably be able to give. Dogs are a 24/7 pet.

none. an animal is obviously not compatable with your life-style at the moment, no animal can afford not to have attention. But if you really waznt an animal i would say a cat, because they are pretty low manteince and don't require as much divotion, just as long as its older a year old.

You can still make time to keep a dog but you are going to have to make sure you do. Dogs require lots of attention. You could try keeping fish.

I don't think that you're suited to be a dog owner because they are very needy, i would suggest that you get a cat instead because they are very independant and don't need much attention.

You need a cat, because a dog needs a lot of attention. A cat on the other hand can fend for themselves.
