Because people are scared, and immature. That's all. Plain and simple. Accepting other religions to them is like accepting the devil. It's ludicris to them and "their way" is the only way. It doesn't really matter. As long as they stand by their beliefs and don't let others try and steal that away from them, they have nothing to worry about. Faith is just about all we have left in this world, no one should take it away from you or anybody else, it doesn't matter what you have faith in.

I guess you are guilty by association. That is why people can't get along. It only takes a few to ruin it for the lot of any group of people that are different. But, you aren't the only ones that have a hard time. Also, Americans are tired of paying high taxes on everything we work for to have it go to places that we don't have any choice about. We are discouraged in our world, some of the people in the world and the horrors they have acted out and we take it out on the closest thing to that when we come in contact with them....I make no excuses, I never am around hardly anyone that's not white, so I can't say much. It's just my opinion. That's all. I think God created all of us the same and I treat everyone the same, until they do something that makes my opinion of them change. Now that can go up or it can go down. Depends on the person, not their race or their dress or their way of life. That's me.I apologize for any actions that you have been subjected to. If you are a good person, you are a good person and you have the right to wear what you want to wear.

Why do Muslim men give Muslim women such a difficult time?
Although I've never seen it, I do believe what you say about some Western people giving Muslim women a hard time. However, I can't remember ever hearing of Westerers forcing a woman (Muslim or otherwise) to undergo female circumcision. Or beating a woman for not wearing a burka. Or throwing acid on her face for not covering it with a veil. Or turning a deaf ear to her reports of being abused or raped by a man. Or murdering her for converting to Christianity. All of these have been perpetrated against Muslim women by Muslim men. And far from being the work of a few radical men, they are often condoned or even endorsed by the theocratic Muslim governments.
If I were a Muslim woman, I'd be begging for a chance to live in a "prejudiced," Western nation!

What is up with some of the people here. Acting like Muslim women are more abused than other women. Women right here in the west are just as abused. Forcing women to dress a certain way, beating them, being controlling or jealous are qualities that any man in any society might possess and are not exclusive to Muslim men. And not all Muslim men fit these categories.
Get educated people.
But to answer your question. Most people tend to believe that their country or society is the beacon of truth and right. So having these thoughts many in the west believe that people from other cultures must be wrong about everything. Unfortunately.

they dont' always!!
it's just the politicians & the people who have culture shock from seeing people that are so different from what they themselves are used to.
they've been largely ignored all these years, you can't qualify your statement that 'always' might be an equivalent for the last few months asian or muslim women wear this veil.
why is it that christian women have not been called up to justify THEMSELVES though?
You shouldn't forget the similarities in habits that to some extent shared roots and a shared God and sometimes similar traditional etiquettes, might have on our habits.
My mum and my grandma wear the veil, my british/philipino godmother also wears the veil & they're all british and they're all christian;
is that fact not suitable for sales in the newspapers because it would burst the bubble on this piece of news?
I think it should be fine to enjoy a little discomfort in order to allow somone else to lead their lives peacably.
The way we're all avidly discussing it, you'd think that everyone wearing the hijab was a terrorist or a remake of edward scissor hands let loose on the streets!

There are muslim women in the US that did not migrate.
It did not occur to me to try to "help" the two dozen women that I met in a fabric store in Maryland. They seemed fine.
Those that wear versions of the veiled dress attract attention, may be in the minority and stand apart. We just don't understand. I see some similarities in treatment towards Amish and other groups that wear old-style dress. However, I think we see something wrong in the treatment of women from some parts of the world. And there may be. I've only known one, quite beautiful and charming woman from Egypt, who covers her hair and wears a long dress. She is queenly. Nothing wrong there. We don't understand what we haven't experienced.
"Ignorance" is the short answer.

People tend to think that their way of life, their values and morals and political views are the only way. People like this can only see that you are FORCED to wear the veil. They feel that it is their duty to enlighten you. It's really similar to earlier Christians who felt that they had to enlighten the heathen and bring them to Christ.
I think that everyone needs to be a bit more tolerant, and let those with different beliefs from their own, believe whatever they want to believe.
It's interesting, this hierarchy in tolerance, or political correctness. We must be tolerant of others faith and culture, except when we THINK that a woman is being treated poorly.

Why migrate if you want to keep your war-torn actions the same as over there? I personally don't hate anyone but I do not trust anyone who has to wear things over their faces to exist, nor do I trust people who wear turbans with knives in them. If that is your religion, keep it out of the Western world then. If you want to be accepted here, act like people here and stop wearing your bedsheets on the street or go back to your original country. This may sound harsh but I am tired of being forced to accept others when they don't accept us. They come here to try to change us to their way of thinking instead of changing to suit the country that they CHOOSE to be in. Why did you choose to come here when you knew that it is a Christian country to begin with? Aren't you trying to influence us? We were here first, yes I am a native, and that is the way that it should stay. I hate nobody as I said before but I hate being manipulated. I am really, really tired of muslims crying prejudiced when it is them who are prejudiced to begin with. Thank you for allowing me to speak my mind. Thank you for your question.

Good point.
I don't think anyone has a problem with Muslim women following the muslim religion . . .
the problem is more that the culture of the west is that the face should be visible for identification purposes, and the western history is that robbers or criminals cover their faces. So a criminal could adopt the disguise of a muslim woman and have his identity concealed. It's a fear issue.

I've known ALOT of Muslim women, MOST didn't wear veils, and the ones who did weren't hassled in any way. Sounds like paranoia coming to the surface. Did you hear that the Leader of iran said that all Jews do not deserve a place to live, and if protected, the protectors would be killed? There was no veil in that speech. We also have dress codes at work. To the post below me-that's what the Muslim women told me.....they don't like it either.
