Stingrays aren't attacking people any more than usual. The only difference is that every stingray incident now gets gobs of publicity.

The same thing happened a few years back with shark attacks... a couple beachgoers got attacked by sharks, it got into the news, and suddenly there's a big buzz over how sharks are attacking people all over the place. If you go back and look at the statistics, there was no uptick in shark attacks that year, it was just an uptick in publicity.

Forget about stingray attacks, it's a non-issue.

About the only ways to get stung by a stingray are (1) to step on one while wading in shallow water (this is the commonest way, which is why most stingray injuries are on the legs); or (2) to swim right along the bottom and pass directly over a stingray that is lying on the bottom. In this case the animal may thrust upward and could therefore hit whatever part of a diver's body happens to be directly above the stinger at that moment. Stingrays don't have the brain power to "figure out" anything.

Sting rays are actually supposed to be very peaceful creatures and don't attack unless threatened.

Interesting theory.
If this is the case why Dinasaures are extinct? We are killing one by one doing damage to ourselves.
You are right, they have figured this out. They are trying to protect themselves this way now.

Maybe that's right. It's kinda weird that all these people are getting hurt or dying from stingrays.
