I have a desktop and a laptop and I want my laptop to have wireless internet access. My desktop has a router and a cable is going to my laptop. What will I need to buy to make my notebook have wireless internet access?

wireless router....and wireless card if you dont have one installed in your laptop.

You will need a wireless network card (either PCMCIA or USB) for your notebook. The PCMCIA (card that slides into a an open slot) is probably the best option, since your laptop might not have USB 2.0 support.

You can either replace your existing router with a wireless version, or add a wireless access point to your current equipment. But since routers are so cheap these days, that's the cost-effective solution. Here are a few examples of what you can use:

First you'll need a wireless router to send the internet signal and then you'll need a PCMCIA wireless card or a USB wireless adapter for your laptop. Some manufacturers sell these two items as a kit so you might want to check that out.
