What makes smoking appealing to you and why? Also for those who have quit, what factors led you to that decision and what helped you in ceasing to smoke? For those who smoke, is there anything that a parent or teacher could have told you that would have helped you make a different decision?

I smoked all my life, between 14 and 47. I gave it up when I realised the habit was ruining my health and my disposable income. I had a smokers cough, shortness of breath. When I bought smokes I felt I was a loser and the other people I saw smoking looked like losers too.
I wanted to quit, but continued to smoke for about another five years because the addiction was too strong. I went to a hypnotist, doubting it could help and it worked! The suggestion that I was an ex-smoker was enough, coupled with my self loathing at being an addict. I bought patches yet again (I would smoke with patches on) and after about three weeks I could go it alone. I have been smoke free for about five years. I would never take it up again because I know the pain of quitting. I don't want to do that again. I think it is the most important achievement of my life. I am still addicted...sometimes I really feel like a smoke. I don't want to spend the last years of my life struggling to breathe. My advice to anybody wanting to give it up? Steel yourself.. Wear the patches.. Use the smokers quit line.. Be proud of your desire to quit.. If you fall off the wagon, don't beat yourself up and think you cannot try again. Be gentle with yourself and just stop. It can be done. I know my advice will not be persuasive to young people, or the ones who convince themselves they smoke because they want to. My turning point was a slow process, that only an older, long term smoker could appreciate. I don't think of smokers as losers now. I feel for them. I used to do it too. Giving up is like having a broken heart. It seems that you won't ever be able think of anything else, but after the habit is broken, with time, the desire just goes. Then, looking back, you can be happy you enjoyed the smokes, but happier that your life is not dictated by the drug and the habit.

You have got to be 18 to shop for them. There is not any regulation in opposition to smoking at a more youthful age even though it is extra intricate than that. It's unlawful to shop for cigarettes on behalf of anybody below 18. It's no longer unlawful to provide a cigarette to anybody below 18. Before the final difference within the regulation (elevating the age at which you'll be able to purchase cigarettes from sixteen to 18), should you gave a cigarette to anybody below sixteen you might be prosecuted for administering a noxious substance to a minor. The regulation has but to be demonstrated, however this might practice to anybody giving a cigarette to a 17 12 months ancient. So you'll be able to smoke at any age, however it is unlawful for someone below 18 to shop for or take delivery of cigarettes. So you'll be able to simply have got to develop and roll your possess.

I used to smoke 3 packs a day. Now I smoke 6 cigarettes a day. When I was young, smoking was glorified. Mickey Mantel would run around the bases and say, there's nothing more relaxing, than smoking a camel after hitting a home run.

I started smoking cigarettes when I turned 18, basically because I could. My grandmother passed away when I was twelve from emphysema (I think that's how you spell it) and yet, I smoked anyway. I went to Berklee College of Rockstars, so EVERYONE smoked. As soon as I got there, the only way to make friends was meeting someone between classes on their cig break.

Now, I wish to God that I never started. I recently adopted my first pet ever. The cutest little kitty in the entire world. As cute as she may be, she has asthma and if I step outside for a cigarette, she starts having an attack when I pick her up afterwards.

Smoking is bad and I wish I could stop.

I just need to try harder

I smoke mainly because I am addicted and I still enjoy it, but I think that is more addiction driven than anything else.

i don't believe that there is anything that my parents or teachers could have done to stop me from taking up the habit. My father is a smoker and even though my mother raised me he smoked when they were married. I'm not sure if that had any impact on my habit, but I take responisblity for that fact that I started smoking, I made that choice and one day I hope I will be able to quit for good...not just yet though...

Parents or teachers can't make smoker quit this bad habit it must be a decision he takes by himself, and he must be so convinced with this decision inorder to be able to face and beat the difficulties of quiting smoking.:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
1)it's hard due to the effect of withdrawing nicotine and then body(brain) starts to secrete nicotine again and this usually disappears after 2 to 3 days
2)And this the harder one which is the habit itself, the habit of catching a cigarette between your fingers and in your mouth between your lips.

ADVICE:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
1)you have to know all disadvantages of smoking as caner and artery diseases.
2)you should stay away from any smoker
3) you should ask for help from anyone you realy loves (wife-huspand-brother-sister-friend)
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm ofcourse or your parents

ONE DAY I WENT INTO A STORE IN CHICAGO. I ASKED FOR A PACK OF BASIC'S AND A 6 PACK OF BUD LIGHT. THE GUY SAID $14.75!

AT THAT VERY MOMENT I REALIZED I WAS NOT IN CONTROL OF MY LIFE,

PEOPLE I NEVER KNEW COULD GET MONEY FROM ME. AND I WAS GOING TO GIVE IT TO THEM,

I GOT SO MAD THAT I QUIT RIGHT THEN AND THERE, 14TH DAY OF AUGUST 2000. 8:05 PM.

YOU MUST FIND A REASON WHICH IS STRONGER THAN YOUR DESIRE TO QUIT FOR GOOD. I WISH THE BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE.
