Any reason you have to change to a woodwind instrument? It would be much easier to change to another brass instrument, for example, the trombone.

But if you want woodwinds and don't want to play flute, I'd go with the clarinet. If you play sax and are in a place where there are only orchestral ensembles, it's hard to find a place to play. But it's easy to change to sax later, if you wanted. Clarinet is fairly easy to play and fits with many different styles of music.

I switched from the French horn to the trumpet. It took some getting used to, with the mouthpiece, but the fingerings are almost exactly the same.

As for woodwinds? I found the alto sax to be pretty simple.

Brass and woodwinds are a world apart. Embouchre, fingering backpressure, everything's different. Take your pick, you're practically starting over again no matter which you choose. Single reeds are easire than double reeds. Sax and flute fingerings are more intuitive and easier than clarinet or as I mentioned the double reeds like oboe or bassoon.

If you are interested in learning a new instrument.
I would recommend the oboe.

While in the Army (from 1990 to 1994) I spent some time with the 24th ID Band, I learned that the oboe is the least represented instrument and thus very easy to advance in rank (for a career minded individual)
BTW, I loved my time in service and would only change my marriage from that time

the flute or maybe the piccolo which is like a flute but it's much smaller. You can also try playing the clarinet it's like recorder and it's not too hard to learn to play it.
