Our recent market research shows that most of our clientele comes by word of mouth. How do I plan a promotion based on this? Print advertising has been found to bring in next to no custom & unfortunately we have already committed capitol to this for the next 12 months!

Incentify your current customer base to recommend you to a friend. Come up with some sort of a promotion where you give the referrers some sort of prize or financial incentive is a friend of their calls you up and uses your services and mentions that they were referred to you by person x.

Great customer service can go a long way, especially if you are depending on obtaining/retaining your clients by word of mouth. As a business owner, I have observed what seems to me to be a great decline in good customer service, which is really sad. Also, an excellent reputation is invaluable. Make sure your business is doing everything it can to maintain its excellent reputation. Your good reputation is the easiest thing to lose and the hardest thing to regain. Whenever you meet/see a client, whether it be a new client or a returning (hopefully) client, it wouldn't hurt to hand them a few extra business cards so that they can pass them out to their friends/business associates who may be in need of your services at some time. If you are in a position to do so, maybe offer some incentive (like a referral bonus) for your existing clients to refer new clients to you. Hope this helps.

build their trust by being honest and make them feel like you're their best friend. the most important thing is to make them feel special and cater to their needs no matter what. people really appreciate you going out of your way to doing things for them. remember past conversations and birthdays, visit them sometimes to just chat about fun and uplifting things. it doesn't have to be at their home, but a restaurant or some event that you cater to will be fine. you have to be a really fun and joking person to make it work really good for you. go out there and let your name be known, be very friendly w/everyone and always show a big smile. next thing you know, you'll be famous! wish you luck!

Deliver what you say you will plus a little more, word will spread, it takes time. You can always ask your clients if they know anyone else that needs your service. And that will be free of course.

cater to the customers everyneed...

You have to make them feel like there is no place better to go to recieve whatever service you are providing.

As for the print ads, you might be able to get out of your contract if you can prove they aren't working.

Tell your clients if they refer you then they get something extra, or discounted for free.

well customer service is key. Treat your customers (esp your first customers) as royalty. Do everything possible for them, even if you have to take little loss doing so. If customers are happy, they will pay you back tenfold.

Just be friendly with them and suggest things that are related to the item that they are buying...If they buy something to hang up suggest nails or wall hangers..mollyscrews...and so on...

Smile and introduce yourself to them...
try to remember their names...greet them with a smile...ect...ect...

strike up a conversation with them, "Is that you little boy?"

Make out blank suggestion slips, things that they feel would be more helpful in your store...

If you don't have what they want suggest a place where they can get it...

You get the idea...
