If you mean to record it from a cd. you will need a ripper program.
If you mean to hold a microphone, and instrument, etc. you need some hardware to be plugged in usb ports. and specialized software.
If want to make it non professional use a micro and the windows media player.

this all depends on what application you are obtaining it from (CD, radio, internet, and so on) and what Operating system you are using.
If you are using windows and are trying to get music from a cd as I assume. all that you have to do is put the cd in open windows media player select the rip tab and it will do the rest.
Taking anything and obtaining the files from it and sending to your computer is called ripping. Hope this helps
