Let's say you have a low pay job, you can't afford an apartment or a car but you can afford food and clothes and fun stuff. You don't know anyone who may be a good canidate for a roommate, and that you are also a complusive spender.

I would try to get a better job and curb my spending habits so I could afford a place on my own. I would keep my ears open for a good roommate at the same time. I would take some of the compulsiveness and put it into a bank instead. That would help me save for something I really wanted, like my own house. I finally got my own home after I turned 38 and I am not one to buy clothes. I did buy a lot of gifts for others that I really couldn't afford. I did without a lot on the clothing and I had roommates. I would buy myself something once every 3 months or so for my apartment to make me feel better. It took a while, but I did it. I know you can too, or whomever it is you may be talking about. My prayers are with you.

well you need to deal with the fact that your a compulsive spender and if you can afford food and clothes (stop spending on the fun stuff) as if you add up what you spend on fun stuff, you'll see that it's probably half what it would cost for shared rent. Worse case senario, move into a hostel where it's cheaper again than having a room mate as in a hostel, you have your own room but there may be 20 other people sharing the building, bathroom, laundry and livingroom. As for your compulsive spending, your just lacking something or making up for something that you missed, deal with this adn things will get better for you.

Sometimes in life we have to sacrifice for the things we need. The operative word is need not want. You are an compulsive spender(your words) so unless you change your habits, you will never have your own. Maybe no one want to move with you because of your spending habits. Rent/Bills must be payed.

I would put myself on a budget to see how I spend my money. Then I would cut out any unnecessary spending. I would then check out my co-workers to see if anyone would make a good roommate. We could then go in together for an apartment.

Dr. Phil had a guest on his show tonite with your same situation, loosing her job or working part time, she had to give up her apartment, moved into her mother's house, went on a spending spree, plazma t.v., designer clothes and shoes, even bought a new car and claimed to be $38,000 in debt and does not care. Her mom enabled her and gave her money, she is 23 and said that's what mom's are for and that she wanted to enjoy her life. Well Dr. Phil told her to sell the plazma, get a job, get a life, grow up. Dr. Phil said the above, not me.,,,,, hey, enjoy your life, you only have one...........

I tend to spend a lot of money, and I just got a second job. It really does help, you can put the money you make from one job into a savings account and use the other for spending money.

Rent a room, work a second job, go to school, and cut down on spending. If, you get a degree or certificate, then, you can get a better paying job and spend more freely.

Find more work, make it a priority to find a roommate to split living costs, screw the fun stuff, put most of my money into a bank account. Duh. That's what any person with a brain would do unless they wanted to become a hobo... not that they're not nice people or anything, but you know...

Move to Phoenix (warm climate), live under a bridge. There are a couple of Goodwill stores, plenty of things to spend money on. If you live close to Tempe, you can crash parties at ASU.
