I have a possible job opportunity for one of the Big 4 firms in Dallas. I am currently in Austin and moved to Austin from the midwest. Is Dallas a good place to live and play? How are the people in Dallas? Austin people are very nice. How is the market for the financial services industry in Dallas? NYC is another option for me; I dont have any job lined up there yet.

Dallas can be enjoyable if you are young, single and have lots of disposable income. Eating out and movie are the two most popular leisure activities.

Dallas doesn’t have much for outdoor activities. Although there are biking and running trails, there aren’t any bike lanes on the street and drivers do not know how to share the road with bikers.

Culturally Dallas doesn’t have a whole lot to offer. Kimbell Art Museum in Ft. Worth is about the only place worth mentioning.

Dallas is very flat, unlike the hilly landscape of Austin.

Dallas people are polite rather than friendly. It is easy to make friends if you are in the click - went to one of the universities (Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University), enjoy college football, or professional football.

Dallas people are in-curious. People generally don't talk about what's going on outside of their world. Great portion of people hasn't travel outside of Texas or the country. The city lacks intellectual stimulation and challenge.

NY has its own challenges. Professional people are a lot more open to accept outsiders. Culturally and intellectually, NY is a better place to be. However, real snowy winters to deal with, 100 plus degrees in the subways during summers and a much more expensive place to live.

No place is perfect. You have to decide on what criteria are important for you.

Best wishes.

Dallas has more to offer than Austin but Austin is more laid back. I think because of UT. I have relatives and friends in the Dallas area and all love it.
