The gasses in the atmosphere bends and distorts the light so we dont see the moon as clearly as we should if we were in space.

The atmosphere does not bother the view enough that u could measure it. The city lights cause the most problems. I have measured our atmosphere for 30 yrs. the oilfield gases etc. The ox is still 20.9% and the green house gas is 1.1% and nitrogen is 78 %. it is so accurate u could use it for calibration.
