mazda rx-8 is a high rev automobile, so it's quick off the line....but the nissan is faster in the long run (due to more horsepower and more torque)

I looked at both cars back in 2004 and went with the 350Z touring model. There were some features that I liked with the RX-8 though. The RX-8 combines the features of a sports car, but the practicality of normal coup. The Z gives you a definite sports car feel with very tight steering and lets you really feel the road. I thought the RX8 had a smoother driving feel, but not as sporty as the Z. One plus for the RX8 is the small backseat. This makes a big difference if you use this car for more than getting from A to Z as the 350Z only has a small trunk that's not accessible while you're driving. After buying my 350Z in 2004, I found out the car did have some issues I'd look into before buying a new one. There were issues with serious tire threading after only 17,000 miles which Nissan admitted to be a manufacturer’s defect and replaced them at no cost to the owner. But only one free replacement, you're on your own after that and it cannot be fixed! The road noise due to the threading is unbearable. I'd check on some Z message boards to see if this is a non issue today. Hopefully it is. The stock radio is a Bose and sounds horrible. Check to see if that's been upgrade since then. A friend of mine has a 2006 RX-8 and the stereo sounds great. I know, small point, but kind of annoying when you want to drive and jam out to your IPOD. The visibility of driving the 350Z is not an issue. Like any car, you have to adjust to learning how to use your mirrors and so forth, so don't let that be something that sways you against the Z. Unless, I'm mistaken, both cars require Premium fuel, I know the Z can only take Premium, but hey, you make a few sacrifices to look good, right? As far as speed goes, well, both cars will get you a nice ticket. I do notice that there's certain camaraderie from other Z owners from present to past years. You'll get a nod or a wave when another Z is next to you. As far as looks go, both cars look great so don’t listen to anyone’s opinion on that, yours is the only one that matters. Happy shopping!

The 350Z is faster.

The 2006 350Z will do a 0-60 in 5.9 sec and a quarter mile of 13.9 @ 103 mph. And a top speed of 155 mph.

The 2006 RX-8 will do a 0-60 in 6.4 sec and a quarter mile of 14.7 @ 101 mph. And a top speed of 145 mph.

212 hp / 159 torque
