I am Pagan and my friends/family and I celebrate this time of year by having a huge party.... we dress up in fun costumes and go bowling, we watch spooky movies, we play music and we feast like there's no tomorrow.

We honor the ones we love who have passed through the veil, we give thanks for all of our loved ones who are still with us and for our many blessings. We celebrate the changing of the seasons and the coming of a new year, which brings with it new chances to live our lives, while appreciating the lessons we have learned from past years.

It is a fabulous occaision and by far my favorite holiday, partially because of what it means to me and partially because I am free to celebrate with all my friends and family, whether or not they follow a Pagan path..... it's one holiday where we all can agree to worship the cycle of nature in the same way.

I'm Pagan, and I love Halloween. It's always been my favorite holiday - even before I discovered what religion was the right path!

I celebrate Halloween in the secular sphere with all of my friends by hosting a costume party. (My friends that come over range from Agnostic to Wiccan to Lutheran!) The party is always the weekend before Halloween.

For Samhain, my husband and I celebrate quietly in our home. I am sure this will be a tough year because we lost a very close, and very young, friend this year. (She just turned 21.)

Currently, I think that Halloween is a fun secular holiday. Halloween came from the Christian (Catholic) holiday All Hallows Eve which was the day before All Saints' Day. All Saints' Day was chosen to be near the pagan Celtic harvest festival of Samhain which is a holiday honoring ones ancestors, celebrating the end of summer, the end of the harvest, and the beginning of their new year (or the beginning of their new half-year).

My family's practices include honoring our ancestors, giving offerings to our deities, preparing the yard for winter, and feasting.
