Get a bit drunk, go completely naked, and rely on the kindness of strangers. Maybe some spearmint gum, so your breath is fresh.
Unless your fat, then cover up with as many layers as possible, nobody needs to see that.

i'd go with a jacket as well, it is often cold in the building, and many arenas have a/c that tends to blast certain areas heavily, so be safe instead of sorry.
if this is a new experience bring a roster. players can be identified by numbers and all were helmets theses days, unless you have your team and the other team completely memorized, bring a shrt list with the players names and numbers (and yes the name is on the jersey too, don't expect to be reading it from most seats in the stands though!)
bring a friend too..

Let's see. Helmet, gloves, shoulderpads, shinguards, socks, skates, jersey (light or dark depending on who you're playing), elbow pads... um... usually I wear workout pants and a cami under my gear... something to change into afterwards, a few spare pucks, mouthguard if you use one (I don't), sticks, stick tape, sock tape, a towel, water bottle
twenty bucks for beer after the game
and your cell phone to call someone sober to drive you home or to come bail you out if necessary.

red bull and a stick.
red bull to keep you awake from the boredom of the game in between fights.
stick to smack the hockey groupies away when they block your view of fights.
Watch out for they hockey crowd, they're rude, aggressive and morons.
