You could do combined training...you'll do both dressage and jumping and it's fun. You can also event. There's nothing that says you can't show both hunt seat and dressage, I did all through high school. Dressage will really improve your seat and balance, it's amazing how interesting a 20m circle can become when you know what to work on!

As far as saddles, you can get an all purpose saddle, though it's hard to get a good seat for dressage in one. Personally, I think some of the more expensive wintec saddles are great. They're easy to clean, well balanced, and tend to fit a wide variety of horses with their adjustable gullets.

What kind of horse do you have? I use to buy my saddles from ads in the paper of people selling them for cheap. I think dressage is an art just like jumping is an art. Go with what you do best and what is best suited for your horse.

Edit: I just saw you add quarter horse mare from Ocala. I live in Florida not far north of Ocala. Some fine horses come out of there. Ocala newspaper is usually loaded with ads to sell english saddles. I would check it out. Further, if she is 15 h.h. or more she would more than likely be good up to intermediate class jumping and quaterhorses are always fine looking dressage animals.

Good Luck and Take Care

I personally like hunters better as all of my horses are hunters. Mind you, they know their basic dressage, but they all excel at Hunters because they're 16.2hh + Warmbloods..
Depending on the horse itself, it depends on what it would excel at - typically, Quarter horses look really good with dressage, however it depends on the horse. Also, you have to remember in Hunters that it's not how fast and clean your horse can get over the jumps, but how Clean and how neat and tidy (form, etc) look. Does your horse have that sharp and neat look in order to compete and do well in hunters? That's up to you. Either way, they're both amazing disciplines, so good luck with whatever you choose.

i am not a realy into english rideing but what i do know about it, is that i would rather do jumping. I jump a little in my westeren saddle and i love the feel of the wind blow on my face, it takes my breath away.
