I dont think you will ever get the complete answer to this question and the useage of statistics will also be not complete in providing with an answer.

My favourites in living memort includes Ian Botham; Kapil Dev; Imran Khan; Sir Garfield Sobers; Richard Hadlee; and Michael Proctor. There have been many others either before the period of the above players and also after the golden age of the above (Freddy Flintoff these days?).

Once again, its just such a diffucult choice, but ultimately, i think i would go for either Kapil Dev or Imran Khan. But i believe consensus world opinion would probably point towards Sir Garfield Sobers, and obviously people from England will be looking no further than Beefy Botham.

Gary Sobers still sets the benchmarks that others strive for. Botham was outstanding, Kapil Dev never really did enough outside the sub continent. Of the current bunch Flintoff needs to be more consistent, Pathan is getting there and I think if michael Clarkes back problem eases he could be awesome

Sir Richard Hadlee! As a line and length bowler, no one surpassed him and he took approx 400 test wickets for a 2nd rate New Zealand side! Underrated as a batsman, but with a test average in the high 30's, he is often overlooked!
