Engine stutters irregularly when I have the car in gear and sitting still. the stutter shakes the whole car, but goes away as soon as I accelerate. With the stutter comes a corresponding drop in idle RPM from around 800 to about 550-600. Anyone got a clue?

car has been serviced regularly, is in good running condition and has only 105K on it. And the stutter also goes away when the engine is put in neutral or park.

Sounds like a slight misfire due to old tune up parts, get some new plugs wires cap and rotor, then u should be ok.

Try checking for a vacuum leak on the master brake cylinder or check out the idle air control valve if supplied on the engine. Good luck!

How has the vehicle been serviced? Could be as simple as a air filter or fuel filter to a major tune up.
