I'm singing a song in a performance. Its a great song, sung by a female, so its within my range. The thing is that it switches from my lower range to my higher range (choir wise I'm a first soprano) in th emiddle of the song. The switch sounds -to me at least- bad, becuase I start out the verse sounding rough and rockish, and end in the higher notes, where my voice is very smooth and not typical of rock.

So... are there any ways to disguise the obvious swith between ranges? Any general suggestions on how to get a better sound? Thanks so much!

Depending on what the song is... You can gravel your voice out on the top part. Sing from the back of your throat, kind of like it feels when you have a sore throat. Usually soparanos (myself included) sing from the front and nose area, so just put your hand to your throat as you are practicing, do what you need to, to increase the vibration there. I just open my throat more and it will move to your throat, but everyone is a little different.
