Sometimes it could be because people are just lazy, but then again, isn't it easier to stay in the car if you have kids with you than unloading all of them to go into the store, stand in line while keeping an eye on your kids, ordering, then paying, then waiting and loading your kids back up?

Many fast food places tell their employees to do the "drive up" first, so if one would go into the restaurant it would not help get the food faster.
Quite a few people have children and do not want to lug a bunch of children into a place to get food.
I do agree with you though about the traffic problems. PLUS if you get tired of waiting in line, there is no way to get out of line. I don't believe a place should be allowed to have a drive-up if it is going to cause traffic problems.

I'm not sure it is laziness but sometimes you aren't geared up to dress up and if there's not much in your kitchen to eat, you can go through a drive-through and not worry about how you look. I do agree, though, that the lines get in the way of through traffic at times. But you see, others feel the same way: there's a need to pick up food to bring home where you are more comfortable eating it, and going through the drive-through is the best way to make that happen without dressing up.

It's not always faster in the drive thru lane. It is laziness, but also convenience.
It's no wonder people gain weight, they won't even walk to get a 500 calorie cheeseburger and fries.

I think going inside is faster and is more convenient, as you get a chance to see who is making your food and if they are being stupid. People who use the drive thru are just lazy bastards.

It has nothing to do with laziness. . . Try lugging three kids, carriages, and everything in to the store, and you'd gladly stay in your car and perhaps wait an extra five minutes too! LOL And kids are usually the ones I'll stop for happy meals for.

Sure, it's lazy! but, it's also convenient, dry when the weather is bad, and wonderful if you don't want to drag the kids along in. I see nothing wrong with using a drive-thru. I wish post offices had them!

in my neighbor hood the mcdonalds is busy in both places inside and out and the drive through is faster in my neighborhood and when you have kids and you have to rush and you have a 1 year old and a 4 year old it is much easier to go through drive threw then to get them out fight them to ge them back in the car bc they do not want to leave. so for me drive threw is much easier and faster.

I always go in and pay attention to the car I WOULD have been behind. 9 times out of 10, I get out and drive away before they get their food.

When it's between waiting in line in my car or getting out of the car, getting my son out of his car seat, & trying to keep him from running around in the restaurant... I'll wait in my car.
Not that I eat fast food much. Mainly just Sonic's
