finally someone who agrees with me. Seriously that series (BBC) made me read the book twice.
Then i thought the new movie might be as good, not better because (who can upstage Colin firth as Mr. Darcy) and all the way through I was like I can't believe I wasted my money on this.
In the BBC version at least we got historical and cultural influences in the movie it was like blah.
Just my opinion but when I have nothing to do I still watch the BBC series and put on subtitles how sad am I? But Pride and Prejudice is so worth it...nice to know someone else out there that thinks Colin firth in that water scene is worth it.
Love the question

OH MY GOD! COLIN FIRTH. Ok over that now! How pathetic was the new version of Mr Darcy. He's supposed to be all angst ridden but he's also meant to be strong and powerful and somewhat arrogant. This new one was all over emotional and basically a big girls blouse! Why you'd do a film version when we all still remember Colin Firth coming out of the lake I don't know. Plus there was far more chemistry between Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehrle. Bloody stupid Idea and a bloody awful film!

I hated it..
That bloke who played Mr Darcy was about as sexy as a wet fish...not a patch on Colin Firth..swoon..
I think they were stupid to re do it..and don't get me wrong, I like Kira Knightly, but she really didn't fit the part of Lizzie bennet either!

and I totally agree..Colin Firth coming out of that lake soaking wet was probably the sexiest thing I have ever seen!!!!

Absolutely agree with you. The TV version with Colin Firth was the definitive one. It was excellent in every way. I suppose they wanted a movie version but it doesn't even get close to the TV one.

personally I thought it was very well done! I read the original for A level english blah blah and loved it then but the new version helps people empathise a little more with the way of the world as it was in the romatic era... don't knock it for what it's attempting to be, which is to highlight VERY good writing. A shed load of people would have gone out and bought her books after that film on that film alone and enlightened themselves to the quality of British authors and writers

In fact it's not as awfull as you say. It is simply another vision. Overall, the scenery, backgrounds, and country folk were much more realistic than previous versions. The costumes and hairdos also seemed in keeping with the times. It's impossible sometimes to make long films, cause first, they may be boring, second, they are expensive.
I liked Mattiew MacFadien very much. Another great addition is the priceless Donald Sutherland .

I absolutely loved the new movie. I had seen a mini-series version that has Resse Whitherspoon as the young sister of Mr. Darcy. I thought it was the best until I watched the new movie.
