It's a gay thing. Normal straight people watch good shows like South Park and Family Guy.

I really got into anime because of my sister. I enjoy it because of the interesting storylines and the effects that can happen in animated shows as opposed to live-action. Anime deals with the unusual, the mysterious, the magical and other things beyond the realm of possibility and are still fascinating.

I like many different kinds of anime, but I'm a huge fan of FullMetal Alchemist, Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny and Sailor Moon. I'm also enjoying Trinity Blood and Bleach, currently airing on Cartoon Network.

As someone else said, "to each their own." Indeed, many of my friends are not anime fans, but I am happy with anime and manga and like to watch all of the new and interesting stuff!

I love anime because of it's unique story, and the art style. I also like to draw, and anime really helped me a lot. Well...for me, without anime, my life would be a pack of boredom.

Also, my older sister influenced me. At first, I really hated anime because I think the stories are dumb, and I used to prefer watching cartoons, but when I started watching Rurouni Kenshin, my sister explained to me that some parts of that anime was based on historical events, and I found that really interesting.

Ah, yet another who has wandered away from the path...allow me to guide you back into the light...

Just kidding.

Well, Anime is a term commonly used to refer to Japanese Animation and don't walk off saying 'oh, it's just cartoons, kid's stuff' because I assure you that this is not the case unless you waste your time with things like Pokemon or that kind of stuff.

Yes, there are bad Anime out there, but there are also excellent Anime out there, that I am sure even a person such as yourself would enjoy.

It is unfair to deem all Anime as bad, because of just one example you may have seen, just as it is silly to say that all Americans are like George W. Bush because he's the one we see on tv all the time...

Get my drift?

Now, what fascinates people is that unlike American or Western animation in general, the style of Anime is much more original in comparison. Its visual style is dynamic, with vivid 'camera' movements, visual perspectives, bright colours and much more detailed drawings...the storylines are as intricate and deep as any intellectual live-action film, some even more so...and it explores a far greater variety of genres than Western animation (possibly even live-action movies)

As they see, seeing is believing...

So, I suggest you watch a few Anime for yourself:

Any of Miyazaki or Studio Ghibli's work is of very good quality, and it also depends on what kind of genres you are into...

Fantasy:

-Princess Mononoke (film), -Spirited Away (film), -Howl's Moving Castle (film)

Drama:

-Grave of the Fireflies (film), -Barefoot Gen (film)

Action:

-Berserk (series), -GTO Great Teacher Onizuka (series, action/comedy), Full Metal Alchemist (series), Bleach (series), Naruto (series, involves several other genres), Inuyasha (series), Ranma 1/2 (series, action/comedy), Trigun (series)

Crime/Thriller:

-Detective Conan (series), -Perfect Blue (film), -Tokyo Godfathers (film)

And I can't say I've watched a lot of romance type Anime so I can't suggest anything there...

Sci-Fi:

Ghost in the Shell 1 and 2 (film), Akira (film), Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (series), Cowboy Bebop (series and film)

I hope that this has been of any use to you, let me know if you have any more questions on the subject as I am more than willing to educate you.

I grew up in Hong Kong as a child and it often brocasted several anime in the afternoon and mornings. People would say "Oh, you still watch cartoons? You are so childish." but story-telling is storytelling, no matter what medium is used to express it.

It's fun to discuss and get together with friends and people too. Animation and comics inspired me to draw, and eventually I grew to love art overall and aiming to be a designer.

oh, and I just happened to be in the age-group anime is intended :p

Umm well some of the boys like Anime because of the girls and how the Japanese draws them (ex.their boobs and whatnot). I don't see the point either, but most of the girls like it because of the romances happening between the characters....I really don't know..=/
