Tough to answer my own question, but I'd say AI. Odds are it's popularity will die down & by then, we'll hopefully have brought music back into the hands of real musicians & songwriters...

MTV was at least once a major innovator and influence, bringing out new legit music acts.
American Idol is an amateur talent show, and a record producer's vanity side project and cottage industry.
So MTV is a has-been, and American Idol is a never-was.
American Idol will never produce a single major music act. Weak. Real weak.

It's been a long time since I watched MTV, but it's produced a lot of way cool stuff, Liquid TV, Headbanger's Ball, Beavis and Butthead, and some films too that are probably pretty cool (can't recall or research right now). American Idol has always been unbearable to me.

American Idol is... at least MTV shows people (or used to) with talent.
Not so much on the MUSIC television anymore though...

MTV...american idol was cool for one season...then it got way too repetitive...at least MTV has music NEWS...
