Hello there,

The Sidekick 2 that you got as a gift was it used by the person(s) previously. If so, then you need to have their username deleted from the device.

It is very easy all you need to do is to call T-Mobile and have them do it for you while you are on the phone. Make sure you note down the IMEI number which is located on the back of the screen. The number starts with 01029800... you will need that as it would need to be reset in the system if it was used previously.

Also as far as getting a plan, you are at liberty to get any plan depending on if you wish to have voice plan with it. If you do, then the price plans for the Voice can be found here: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/

All these plan require a one year contract and you can add an add-on sidekick data feature for an additional 19.99 a month plus taxes. The feature includes unlimited Internet, email, as well as unlimited text messages.

If you choose not to go with a voice plan and would like only "data" plan which is very common for Sidekick 2 then it will be 29.99 a month plus taxes and if you make a call then you will be charged 0.20 a minute. This plan comes with unlimited Internet access, email as well as text messaging for the prices listed here.

I think you would benefit with a contract. I suggest a voice plan with the sidekick add-on feature.

You will also need to but a new SIM card.

Also bare this in mind that you will require to pay a one-time activation fee of $35.00 depending on your credit. When you call T-Mobile (1-800-937-8997), ask to speak with activations department they will set up with a new account. When you speak with an activations representative, they will need to do a credit check and that will qualify you as a post paid customer. If for some reason if you don't qualify and are offered to become a smart access customer, decline the request because with being a smart access customer you wont be able to sign up for the sidekick add-on feature therefore you would be better off at this point to follow the prepaid route.

If you have any questions, let me know I will gladly answer any questions you may have.

Good luck!
