There is no doubt in my mind that both parties will be producing more and more unbelievable criticizing advertisements as we count down the days to the midterm election.
I will explain the newest, biggest, and baddest one of them all.
Over the course of many months with the various scandals and speculation that the president is breaching the boundaries of his executive power, Bush has been trying hard to keep the focus on the “War on Terror”.
It seems only natural to me that incumbent republicans would choose an advertisement concerning the wars.
The GOP has just announced they will release the advertisement this weekend. It is apparently intended to paint the democrats as being soft on terror, and the GOP will monopolize on their own attributed fear tactic once again.
They have gotten their idea for their new advertisement by examining an advertisement launched by Lyndon B. Johnson against his opponent, Barry Goldwater, in 1964. Under that specific advertisement, Johnson took advantage of the Cold War and labeled his opponent as an extremist who would plummet the nation into a nuclear war if elected president.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._presidential_election,_1964
The advertisement to be aired this weekend, like the one in 1964, is actually an exaggerated, despicable, petty, and desperate act with a small amount of truth blown WAY out of proportion by scaremongerers and warmongerers who have always relied heavily on their notorious FEAR TACTIC to garner support.
As you should know, republicans are scared out of their mind by the possibility of losing control of Congress. Meanwhile democrats are generally confident, and justifiably so.
Although it can be argued that the democrats are “soft on terror”, it is because they realize Iraq is no real "terror" threat to homeland security; actually our war which is fueling Islamic hatred is the cause of the threat.
As long as our nation shows diplomacy backed by our own military prowess, Intelligence, and support from the UN, democrats believe there is no doubt our great nation will be just fine.
The democrats certainly are "soft on terror" as they put it, and far less aggressive in the issue. But Intelligence points to the fact that the GOP is clearly WEAK on terror with their failing foreign policies backfiring 180 degrees.
So, which is better?
Is it the fault of the democrats that republicans would not listen to them after a while into the invasion, when democrats anticipated that more terrorists will form and things will only get worse? Nope. The “infallible” GOP thought they knew best.
Please excuse my bias…but I feel it is necessary since it supports reality, after all.
But I digress...are you going to let republicans sway you to vote for them and continue to intentionally mislead our American population into believing that they are doing a good job in the war fronts? Or are you going to allow them to persuade you with their scare tactics to succeed once again, as it happened when the U.S. almost unanimously decided to invade Iraq (the war in which our army bases are stationed next to oil fields)?
Hopefully none of the above!
I URGE ALL FELLOW AMERICANS to take into account with a clear head the advertisement, should they happen to view it sometime this weekend.
On November 7, I want ALL OF YOU to use your head and your heart to get out there and VOTE!!!

I have a hunch that the commercial will backfire like a poorly tuned engine.

Th scare tactics have gone on too long for too many things. The people even got to believing that they could not effect their own future and were dependent on the government for their well-being. Seeing the bozos in action the last few years has taught everybody who isn't brain-dead that the politicians are reliably capable of only one thing, stealing.

Whatever danger we might be in from overseas can be laid squarely on the doorstep of the Whitehouse and its current temporary (Lord be praised!) tenant.

Remember the really good scare tactics used to fight drugs? ... "This is your brain, this is your brain on drugs." To the extent that that commercial ended drug abuse, the Neocon scare tactic will cause people to vote for the Republicans. A lot of people are about to the point of saying "I'll never vote for a Republican again!" So the commercial might do some good if my dear GOP dies a natural death, and one of the other parties, which all are looking better every day, replaces it. Wouldn't break my heart if we ended up with two entirely different parties (or more) in U.S. politics.

I mute ALL commercials during election season. I watch the debates, though. The person who gets my vote gets it due to extensive research on my part, not a 30 or 60 second soundbyte of him telling me how great he is or how horrible his opponent is.

Ity brings to mind the old saying "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". I look foreward to the day when politicians actually heed this and take out 30 second ads of silence...

If that damaging bill passes, the Tea activities have a number of artwork to do between now and Nov. 2012. Passing that bomb of a bill will, positively, kill ANY probability Obama has of being reelected for a 2d time period.

No. I don't watch TV. Besides, with the exception of the Democrat candidate for Sheriff in my county, I've already decided to vote for mostly Republicans, and one Libertarian.

I certainly don't agree with everything the Republican Party platform presents...but at least they have one. The Democrat Party stands for nothing, presents no realistic ideas, and they cater to underachievers and weirdos.

Actually, they could save their resources. As long as Democrats continue to carp about the incumbents but REFUSE to provide an alternative, there IS no other choice. It's EASY to complain about the situation. It's NOT so easy to come up with a WORKABLE program that'll get what EVERYONE wants.

actually, you can't vote for "the GOP"

you can only vote for individual candidates

Like you, I encourage people to use their heads and hearts and get out there and vote.

Unlike you, I don't try to vilify one party or group. I suggest people consider the big principles and the personal integrity of the candidate and vote accordingly.

people need to remember we are americans we fear nobody.. but the republicans would have us in bomb shelters on election day if they could and perhaps they might to keep the votes in certain areas down........they are a crime family and if you follow the m you are nothing but their bee-atch-es...........dont be afraid those that they call terrorists are weak and unable to mount anything that will deeply hurt us (enless allowed to by certain people ) the more you fear the more the republicans like it....

Who says they need to convince me? They already have my vote. I will do everything I can to keep Nancy Pelosi from being speaker of the house.
