Please answer the question with a question. This question has stumped me for hours...learning spanish as a second language

That is not something you answer with a question, unless you are asking something like 'why do you ask?'

When you don't understand, you say, "Disculpame, pero no comprendo", which means, sorry, but I don't understand. If you want to be specific, add : 'no comprendo esta palabra' which means, I don't understand this word.

"No comprendo poquitos palabras" means I dont understand some words. "No comprendo nada" means I dont understand anything.

¿Cómo? ... which essentially means "How's that again?"
