As I remember, it was the Greek philosopher Eratosthenes, in about 230BCE who first contemplated that our Sun was a star, very close to us. He also accurately calculated the distance to the Sun as well as the circumference of the Earth.

Everyone at the time thought he was crazy, and continued to believe he was crazy for almost 2000 years.

It's sort of the other way around. Eratosthenes (About 284bc-192bc) thought that the stars might be other suns
