How much free space is left on your hard drive? That could be the problem if you have a lot of tunes.

You might want to buy an external hard drive just for your mp3's to free up storage space on your PC, but your music software/player [e.g. iTunes, MMJukebox, etc.] would have to be able to read the external drive to play music back through your PC and/or load your iPod. That part I'm not sure about.

you can right click on your folder and go to properties, under the general tab select the advanced button, there you will see an option to compress the files to save disk space. You can also go to the start menu, select run, and type "msconfig" then hit enter. go to the tab that says startup and you can tell your computer to stop loading certain services upon bootup. you may also want to run a defrag on your disk.

You can do a disc defragment and try to free up space on your harddrive or you can delete programs that you don't or rarely use. Both can be done in the Control Panel.

You can get an accelerator for your computer. I did that and my computer is fast. A good accelerator is speed Gear 5.00 You can find it at. http://www.softcows.com/ It is not free but they have a free trial for it.

I hope this can help you.

P.S. Do what the other good people on this site are saying it will help also.
